Why this page exists
For a site that provides decision support during major life transitions, transparency about how content is produced, reviewed, and corrected is fundamental. This Editorial Policy describes our process so users can evaluate the work we publish on its merits.
Editorial principles
Three principles govern every piece of content on PivotReset:
- Source-cited or omitted. Statistics, dollar figures, percentages, and factual claims are sourced to authoritative public data — Federal Reserve, Bureau of Labor Statistics, IRS, Census Bureau, CFPB, Kaiser Family Foundation, peer-reviewed journals, or specific government publications. If a claim cannot be sourced, it is omitted or reframed as observation rather than fact.
- Estimates are labeled as estimates. Calculator outputs, scenario projections, and recovery scores are estimates based on user inputs and documented assumptions. Estimates are never presented as predictions or guarantees. Methodology is documented for every tool.
- Editorial independence from monetization. Advertising, affiliate relationships, and Pro subscriptions do not influence editorial content, calculator outputs, or scenario recommendations. Recommendations within calculator outputs do not generate commissions.
Who produces content
PivotReset's content is produced by Abiot Y. Derbie, PhD, a biomedical data scientist with expertise in multi-prediction modeling, large-scale data pipeline engineering, and behavioral finance applications. Abiot drafts methodology, integrates federal data sources, and designs decision tools.
Decision tool mathematics — formulas, dimensional consistency, and edge case behavior — are validated by Armin Allahverdy, PhD. Tools that have completed mathematical validation will display a "Validated by Armin Allahverdy, PhD" stamp on the tool itself. Tools without that stamp are still operational but have not yet completed formal validation.
PivotReset is not currently engaged with a licensed financial advisor, attorney, or tax professional for individual content review. Where decisions modeled on the site benefit from professional advice, we direct users to seek a qualified licensed professional. See our Disclaimer for the specific decisions we recommend professional consultation for.
How content is produced
Research phase
Each piece of content begins with a research phase that identifies the user-facing question, the federal data sources that bear on it, and any peer-reviewed research relevant to the question. Source candidates are evaluated for authority, recency, and direct relevance. We prefer primary sources (the federal data publication itself, the original peer-reviewed paper, the IRS publication) over secondary sources (news articles, blog posts, third-party summaries).
Drafting phase
Content is drafted with explicit citations to the underlying sources. Where data points are integrated into calculator formulas, the formulas are documented with the source of each parameter. Where assumptions are required (for example, a default interest rate when no user input is provided), the assumption and its source are documented.
AI assistance disclosure
Some PivotReset content is drafted with AI assistance, including by large language models such as Claude (Anthropic) or ChatGPT (OpenAI). When AI is used, it functions as a drafting and research aid — not as a primary author. All AI-assisted content is reviewed by a human editor (Abiot or a designated reviewer) before publication. AI-generated facts, statistics, and citations are independently verified against the original source. AI is not used to produce final recommendations or to replace professional judgment.
Review and verification
Before publication, content is reviewed for: (1) accuracy of cited statistics against the original source, (2) consistency with PivotReset's broader methodology, (3) appropriate disclaimers and pointers to professional advice where warranted, and (4) clarity of language for users in crisis (we avoid jargon and explain terms inline).
Tool-specific validation
Decision tools, scenario simulators, and recovery scores undergo additional validation before earning the "Validated by Armin Allahverdy, PhD" stamp. Validation reviews each formula for mathematical correctness, dimensional consistency (units balance through every step), edge case handling (zero values, extreme values, negative values where they should not occur), and alignment with documented methodology. Validation status is per-tool, not site-wide; tools that have completed validation will display the stamp. Tools without the stamp are operational but pending review.
Citation standards
Citations point to the original source whenever possible. For federal data, this means the data product or publication name (e.g., "Survey of Consumer Finances, Federal Reserve, 2022") rather than a news article reporting on the data. For tax information, this means the relevant IRS publication. For peer-reviewed research, this means the journal, authors, year, and DOI when available. We avoid stacking multiple direct quotes from a single source — we paraphrase with attribution when integrating findings from research papers or government reports, in keeping with copyright fair use practices.
Updates and freshness
Content is reviewed at least annually and more frequently when triggers warrant it: tax law changes, federal data updates, regulatory shifts (such as the COBRA, Marketplace, or Medicaid policy adjustments), or material methodology revisions. The "Last updated" date on each page reflects the most recent substantive review. Cosmetic edits (typo fixes, formatting changes) do not change the "Last updated" date.
Corrections policy
We correct material errors as soon as they are identified and verified. The correction process is:
- Reporting — anyone can report a suspected error by emailing [email protected] with the URL of the page, the suspected error, and any supporting documentation. We acknowledge reports within 5 business days.
- Verification — we check the suspected error against the original source. If the error is confirmed, we move to correction. If it is not an error (for example, the data has been updated since publication and our content reflects the older value), we may instead update the content to current data.
- Correction — material corrections are applied to the content, the "Last updated" date is bumped, and a brief note is added describing what was corrected and when. Non-material corrections (typos, broken links) are made silently.
- Notification — for substantial corrections (a calculator formula error, a misstated statistic, a misattributed citation), we notify the original reporter and update relevant social channels.
Conflict of interest disclosure
PivotReset does not currently have affiliate relationships, sponsored content arrangements, or paid partnerships that would create conflicts of interest with editorial content. The team does not receive commissions from financial products recommended within calculator outputs. If affiliate or sponsorship relationships are established in the future, they will be disclosed at the page level (per the Privacy Policy) and the global Disclaimer.
Personal financial holdings
The PivotReset team's individual financial holdings, employment, and family circumstances do not influence editorial content. We do not produce content that is intended to benefit specific securities, financial products, or providers in which the team has personal financial interests. Where individual experience is referenced (for example, in a personal anecdote within a guide), it is clearly framed as such.
User-generated content
Where users share recovery stories or experiences (through the Share Story page or future features), submitted content is reviewed before publication and may be edited for length, clarity, or to remove personally identifying information. We do not pay for or solicit specific stories. Submitted stories may be declined if they conflict with our editorial standards (for example, if they constitute personalized financial advice from one user to another).
